God Has Written a Book About You

His Story Was Written About You Before You Were Born

Did you know that God wrote a story about your life before you were born? Psalm 139:16 says, "Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they were all written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet were none of them."

That means that your life is not random and that God not only created you, but was very intentional in how He created you—every aspect of your being was so well-planned out by God that He WROTE about you before you were ever born!

Yes, you!

Isn't that an amazing thought?

Have you ever dreamed about something you wanted so badly? Maybe it was your wedding or a dream vacation or to have a baby. You thought about it all the time and couldn't stop thinking about it. You got out a journal or made a dream board and told others about it. Your heart thrilled and skipped a few beats every time you thought about that dream coming true.

Have you ever thought that God created you and that you were His dream? His desire?

You are not a random, nameless face that God created among the masses to populate the earth.

No, quite the opposite.

Psalm 139:16 says something entirely different than that "nameless" lie that so many have ingested as truth.

It shows that He wanted you so much, that He put a tremendous amount of thought into you to the extent that He wrote about you and how He was going to form you before He ever created you.

He made you on purpose, with a purpose and for His purpose.

Why Did He Create Me?

Jesus reflects on the heart of The Father and in why He created you in John 17:21-23:

"...that they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. The glory that You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and You in Me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that You sent me and loved them even as You loved Me."

Slow down and re-read that so you can take it in, word by word. It can be so easy to gloss over Scripture to get to the bite-sized summary instead of really chewing on the treasures tucked inside God's words.

Read it again. Slowly.

There are amazing truths about God's creation of you in these verses.

"...That they may all be one, just as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You."

Did you catch that?

Jesus and The Father are one together and in fellowship with one another...and they desire the same with you! You were created to be in fellowship with your Creator.

He wants to be close to you. He wants you to believe that God loved you so much that He sent His Son Jesus and would go full speed into sacrificial agape love at any costs (John 3:16) to be with you.

"So that the world may know that You sent me and loved them even as You loved Me."

Wow! Did you know that God loves you as much as He loves His own Son, Jesus? That is not a little love! That is an avalanche of love from Love itself that fills the entire universe and He wants you to know that truth!

Why Don't I Always FEEL God's Love?

You won't always feel God's love because His love is not based on feelings, but on covenant. Hebrews 12:2 says that Jesus scorned the shame of the cross as He went through all the suffering and pain that He went through.

But, because His love was rooted in covenant, the verse also says that, "for the joy set before Him" (to be reconciled with you), that He endured it. He didn't love the shame of the cross, but He pushed through it because you were the joy set before Him--the outcome was loving and rescuing you, so it was worth the pain to Him.

How can you understand this more? Imagine an emotionally healthy mother bearing a baby--the pain is not fun for her to go through and can be excruciating at times during delivery. But her love for her child compels her to keep pushing until her baby is finally out and in her arms.

You don't always feel God's love because your feelings are fickle.

It's not that your feelings are bad, but, because you live in a fallen world, your feelings are not always accurate because they can be affected by living in your body:

Romans 7:15-20 says, "And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it."

Because your body is subject to sin and your feelings can be affected in an untruthful way by influences, it's important to rely on His truth and covenant instead of your feelings.

The truth of God's Word and your reliance on the conviction of His faithfulness will keep your steady when your feelings are fluctuating all over the place--up one day and down the next.

The truth of God's Word and who He is is like an anchor attached to you. When life is great and the water is calm, great--the anchor of His truth will hold you fast. But likewise, when storms come, you will still hold fast because you will be anchored in His truth.

Why Have There Been Hard Parts In My Story?

When Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil, something was opened to every person. Before they sinned, they only knew good. When they disobeyed God and sin entered into the world, it also opened hard times to be introduced to every person's life story.

God knew that you, by nature, would be subject to sin and that is why He sent His Son Jesus to rescue those parts of your story and make them into something beautiful.

Romans 8:28-29 says, "...we know in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."

You can be confident and say with Joseph when hard circumstances hit your life, "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today."

God will "restore the years the locusts have eaten" and works things out for your good.

That means that, when He was writing your life story, He already knew the dark things that would be woven in your story because of the inherit sin nature you had downloaded in you before you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Because you live in a fallen world, He was already planning on weaving redemptive threads of gold in your story so that the dark things turned out in ways that would ultimately grow and benefit you and others and draw you close to Him.

His plan was never for you to sin, but He works even around the shadows of sin and sin's stains to re-write those dark places into redemptive stories of life. You can rest assured knowing that, even if you are going through dark times in your life right now, that God has a beautiful plan for your life and has written a good story for it.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

Your story is bright with Jesus even if you face the toughest of circumstances! He is your "happily ever after" even if life throws you nothing but curveballs.

His love is a love for you that will never end.
